Another wine from the Cairns BYO Indian Restaurant. A Grenache dominant Gigondas made by the 3 Faraud sisters. I split 6 bottles of this with the chap who brought this to the dinner. I had consumed mine. This was very tasty a few years ago. This example was a little flat and lacked freshness. Earthy and savoury. One of the 1001 wines.

Last bottle of a good Gigondas made by the 3 sisters of Domaine du Cayron. Aromas of dusty sour cherry with some fudge notes. Disagree with my own notes of 100 weeks ago of “Drink Up”. Medium weight - all Tannins resolved and all in balance.

Very dark almost black core with a Crimson rim. Solid aromas of ripe black and blue fruit- almost a little porty - touch of oxidation? Notes of Liqueur Cherry and fine grainy Tar. Enjoyable but better a couple of years ago. Drink up remaining bottles.

Nice and savoury with notes of dried raspberry. Barely medium bodied. A great food wine in this case Chicken with stir fried vegetables and gnocchi. A fine example of mature Gigondas made by 3 sisters. Like this Grenache dominant southern Rhone style - one of the 1001 Wines.

Almost the anniversary of my first Delectable entry when sitting outdoors at a wonderful restaurant in Gigondas under a tree drinking the 2008 vintage of this wine with all the family. This is 70% Grenache with the rest made up of Cinsault Syrah and Mourvèdre. The further south the higher usage of Mouvedre until Bandol right on the Mediterranean coast where it can be 90 to 100 % because of its higher tolerance to hot conditions. Chateau de Beaucastel where I visited a year ago uses all 13 permitted varieties with the highest being Mourvèdre at 30 %. They have increased this % over the years because of warmer conditions at vintage lessening the Grenache % so alcohol levels do not get out of control. Love this very savoury style of wine. 18.
