Galafrey
Dry Grown Vineyard Müller-Thurgau
Mr. Spittoon and I love our chillies. In fact there's very few dishes that we wouldn't add some 🌶 spice to. One of our favourites is chicken enchiladas with homemade tortillas from the Edmonds Cookbook (if you're a a Kiwi you'll know exactly what this is). So when we were at the Galafrey cellar door in the Great Southern recently (blog post here: travellingcorkscrew.com.au/galafrey-wines) we couldn't help pick up some of their dry grown Müller-Thurgau which matches well with spicy dishes. You wouldn't think such a delicate wine would match well however the spice really brings out the fruit sweetness and depth in the wine. Here's what I thought of the 2016 sans food:
Nearly water white colour on the eye with a rather candied nose of subtle tropical fruit lollipops and just-peeled-mandarin freshness. The palate is delicate and makes me think of juicy pears. The spicy enchiladas make the flavours in the wine pop and the depth of the wine really come through. Wine & food heaven!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine #tctastingnotes
