Les Peyrouses Côtes du Rhône AOC Red Rhone Blend
Crazy good albeit a little ripe, exudes character. Lots of Scortched earth, charcoal and camphor, complimented by dark berry and winter spices. Truly great and hard to believe I bought recently for under $40. I’ve had the current vintage and it reminds me of either gramenon (kermit) or domaine du mas blanc (colliure). Awesome stuff

Oct 19th, 2022Big, dark and spicy with plenty of tannins but with amazing fragrance. Give it a few years and break out the lamb.

This mini-Cornas right outside the AOC is immediately approachable and gorgeously fragrant while still being quite old-school.

May 4th, 2017Holy smokes this is beautiful, elegant young syrah. From just outside the Cornas limits but similar in scope of a touch less feral. A touch of smoke and meat as well as wooden hot tub and dark fruit. Tannins stiffen over time. For QPR, this is a ten and the best CDR I've had in years.

Jun 15th, 2015Old vine syrah from the wrong side of the tracks in the Cornas neighborhood, so it's appellation Cotes du Rhone, but the hope is that it's kind of Cornas-y even if it comes from the flats. At first it's super-structured and backwards but also very hearty and dense with that rich old-vine concentration. The flavors at that point might have passed for something grenache. With a bit of air it gets more civilized, though, retaining that hearty richness but the structure turning almost silky even though it builds and toughens up on the back end. How Cornas-y is it? Well, it doesn't have any of the wild meatiness or much non-fruit stuff, and the particular berry flavors still coulda fooled me on the syrah vs. grenache thing, but that dense inner core and muscled structure seems about right.
