Iago's Wine
Chardakhi Chinuri
Iago's Wine. Chinuri, one of the 500+ Georgian grapes, fermented in a qvevri (amphora ) with skin contact. Iago Bitarishvili was a splendid host in Kartli, Georgia when I visited last March, and his clean savory wine is a delight. Great Georgian food @ Oda House in NYC.

Feb 14th, 2015Umm kind of a disappointment to be honest. Flabby and overly natural this wine suffocated a good grape with its production, or more appropriately, lack thereof.

Apr 9th, 2015Thin skinned grapes make this orange wine less tannic than expected. Sour but remarkably fresh, this one had to grow on me. But once it did... Paired well with lamb ragu, as the vintner recommended!

Feb 12th, 2015This stuff, with the "with skin contact" sticker, is some seriously old-school deep orange business that I can easily imagine having squirted down my throat from a goatskin pouch while riding on the back of one of hannibal's elephants through the caucasus mountains. Rugged like some forgotten Overnoy experiment from a secret hilltop vineyard in the Jura. Not for pussies.
