Würzburger Stein Trocken Silvaner
My last business trip gave me the opportunity to pass through the Franken region, the only wine region of Germany's Bavaria. I decided to stop by to collect some samples of the local wines made with Silvaner, Spätburgunder and Domina grapes. Unfortunately 2014 has been quite a bad year for wine in Franken as well as most of Europe, so the reds from this harvest, I have to say, are quite poor. Silvaner, on the other hand, tried to defend itself. The color is pale yellow with greenish reflections. Flavours are citrus, lychee, pineapple, banana, some small mineral back flavour like sulfur and lime and decise white flowers. Not a bad wine at all, but definetely the "bang for the bucks" was disappointing. Around the €8 mark, it's possible to find wines with incredibly better price/quality ratio here in Italy.... anyhow I look forward to taste the 2015 harvest..
