Jura Brooklyn
Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Just the right amount of peat, vanilla, cinnamon, burnt orange skin and smoke. A phenomenal bottle!

George Orwell spent two years the Isle of Jura writing 1984 and described the place as 'unget-at-able’. A collaboration between Jura distiller Willie Tait and a rogues gallery of Kings County establishments like Bedford Cheese Shop, The Richardson, Buttermilk Channel and Brooklyn Magazine, this mellow, peat-dried Islands single malt was released in a limited edition which has already sold out in the US. The group tasted various cask samples and, their preferences noted, the ‘Brooklyn’ was crafted on Jura. Smoke, coffee, dried fruit and honey mingle in a very balanced dram. Also present, a little sea air and the various cask treatments: American White Oak Bourbon, Amoroso Sherry and Pinot Noir. We think this is a Scotch with a new-world slant – a little lighter, a bit more nimble, the peat a little mellower than some, the smoke present but not overpowering. We’ll drink it ’till it’s gone and then we’ll keep talking about it after that.

Went for it because of the Brooklyn connection. No age statement. Seems pretty unbalanced to me. Opens up a little with some water, but not much.
