I went out tonight in search of something French at the local PCC, and walked away with this bottle. Chitry-le-fort, a close neighbor to Chablis, has a long history of wine-making and in 1993, was allowed to include its name after the Bourgogne appellation. Chitry is allowed to grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, both of which benefit from the limestone earth upon which the vines grow. This bottle was produced by the Giraudon family, a mainstay in the Chitry area, who grow modest yields harvested by hand that are meant to be drunk within 3-5 years of bottling due to the low tannic structure of the juice. Some of the best Pinot Noirs in the world grow in Burgundy, and though this one was of modest character, it paired well with a veggie pho noodle broth. ~$20 | #bourgogne #pinotnoir #chitry

On the eyes: Clear, low concentration, pale bright ruby, med- stain, med- tears, no gas, floc.

On the nose: Vinous, a bit meaty, floral with rhubarb, cranberry, and unripe strawberries. Med alcohol.

On the tongue: Med acid, med-tannins, med- alcohol, med- body, quite fresh and approachable. Stewed cranberries, leafy with a subtle forest floor vibe going on, a bit oaky on the finish. Pleasant for a table red, unassuming and drinkable.
