This wine is a great example of Napa cab, especially from Rutherford. This is dark fruit, stain the glass purple, slow moving legs and lovely earthy notes on the tongue. Dusted cocoa leaves, too. Decanted about two hours and was prime. At $60'ish/bottle, this wine gives their reserve a battle for best wine. A new favorite under the $75/bottle price point.

This is a mildly interesting story. Well, in fact, it's only interesting to me because I benefitted.

You may recall my previous BMW posting on Round Pond, how it was corked and how I was unlikely going to give them another chance. Well, the wine gods intervened and here I am.

I was on my way down to Boston and I made my typical stop at the New Hampshire liquor outlet. For those of you not in the know, it's probably the only liquor store in the US that has a dedicated off ramp from the interstate. It serves as the de facto rest area for the brief 20miles one is in NH on I95.

Every time I'm in there, it seems they are posting sale tags on the wine shelves. Well, I happened to see that this wine was (probably) confused for the cheaper Kith and Kin. They were strangely several shelves apart. On sale for $28. Plus an additional 15% off purchases seasonal sale! I said what the hell and picked up 4. Of course, it came up at $50ish but when I pointed out the price tag. Bam. $25 out the door.

An old friend of mine had a saying: free food tastes better and free clothes wear better. So, with that in mind, here goes...

Decanted 2 hours. The wine is deep dark red with almost no translucency. The nose is fairly intense. Lavender, cassis and leather. There is some mild heat in there as well.

The palate is rich and full bodied. The wine coats the mouth and the intensity from the nose continues. Cassis and dark fruits. Moderate to firm tannins. Nice finish. Definite notes of Rutherford dust.

Deep ruby/purple in the glass. Powerful aromas of dark chocolate, violet and cassis are layered with black currant and plums. The medium plus acidity drives the lush ripe fruit in the midpallet, centered around wildflowers, baking spice and dark berries. The finish is long with polished tannins and a touch of tobacco.

Syrop du cassis, barrel toast and caramel on the nose. On the palette, it's impressive. The mouthfeel is rich and plush. Tannins are ripe, and need time to resolve. Wonderful Cabernet expression. Finishes luscious and layered, with deep, dark fruits. This is standout.

Impressive.
On the nose, it displays syrop de cassis, sweet oak and rich dark fruits.
The palette is plush and rich. The tannins provide texture and structure, but are not yet resolved. Ripe, sexy fruits present as a reduction with balsamic and mocha notes. 14.3% abv sneaks up on you. This is a textbook Napa example.

Haven't had this cab for a good while. It's impressive. Lovely inoffensive nose of sweet cherries and blueberries. Has a smooth, lithe mouthfeel. Notes of oak, vanillin, leather and white pepper. Finishes long and sweet. Always a winner in my book.
