I have several previous Delectable notes on this brilliant wine. As fellow Delectable taster Scott Rowe said of this wine “Epic”. Sadly my last of the 2015 vintage Tolpuddle Pinot Noir. There were too many things going for it not to be a success. :-
Coal River Tasmania; Shaw and Smith Winemaking team; 2015 vintage. There were spicy red cherries on the nose. A stalky whole bunch note. (50% whole bunch fermentation). See previous notes. Every year since has been a similar success.

A gorgeous savoury red fruited extravaganza. Herbal notes from whole bunches in the fermentation (50%). This certainly has become an instant hit as a top quality Pinot Noir from the Coal River Tasmania but owned by Shaw + Smith from the Adelaide Hills. Interesting to try 2 quality Pinots from the same vintage (2015) on successive nights. The Tolpuddle won over Yarra Yering in this bout, marginally. James Suckling’s comments, “They have totally nailed it” and 97 points.

Red fruits particularly cherry with stalky notes although I notice only 50% whole bunch fermentation. Quite a sweet palate initially - savoury and fruity at the same time. The oak influence is perfectly judged. Delicious - what a beautiful wine. Emphasising yet again that the Coal River Tasmania is perfect for Pinot Noir. The next night, just as impressive.

Red fruits - mainly cherry with stemmy overtones, herbaceous with a touch of ginger. A good balance of whole bunch in the ferment. A wonderfully harmonious palate showing the same descriptors from the nose with medium plus intensity. A really good new world Pinot Noir - up there with the best. Will cruise through to 2030 in the cellar.

Fantastic tension between the crystalline fruit and the stemmy, herbal texture. There's something evocative of great Burgundy here, but rarely have I come across old world wine that so well matches pure fruit with the intensity of whole cluster qualities. I don't know that this wine could have been made anywhere else than Tasmania.

Looking better and better closer to release. This is the perfect showcase for what Tassy can do!!

I have purchased Tolpuddle Pinot Noir since the inaugural vintage in 2012 and they have all been great Pinots. The latest 2015 is no exception with whole bunch vegetal aromas. Spicy cherry and savoury plum flavours with medium + intensity. Good cellaring potential of 5 to 10 years.

Loved this: extensive whole bunch lends that sappy, almost caramelised root veg flavour; structure to boot.
