Viña Almaviva S.A.
Almaviva Puente Alto Red Blend
This is a cooperative project between the Rothschild’s & Concho Y Toro, much like Opus One, which started with Mondavi & the Rothschild’s but now Constellation Brands owns Mondavi’s half.
2007 was a good vintage in Puente Alto.
On the nose; nice perfumed fruits; blackberries; blue fruits, dark cherries, black raspberries, hints of strawberries , black pepper, stones, slight tarry notes, black licorice, fields of violets, lavender and decayed red florals.
The body is full. The tannins still chewy, round yet velvety. The length is beautiful. The tension nice, big structure and nicely balanced. The fruits are; ripe, blackberries, blackberries; blue fruits, dark cherries, black raspberries and hints of strawberries. Leather, black pepper, stones, slight tarry notes, black licorice, dark rich soils, graphite, nice round spice, dark chocolate, incense fields of violets, lavender and decayed red florals. The acidity is very nice. The long elegant finish and nicely polished. Still needs another 5-8 years in bottle. Drink 2023-35.
Photos of; their Viña...the roof was designed with a relationship to the top flow of the Andes Mountains, grapes that were just harvested this morning and waiting processing, signage as you turn into their Vina and another building on the property.
Notes on the label/logo, the four dots in the center represent the four seasons and the half circles represent how the winds blow east and west from the Andes to coast and Vice Visa and how they flow north and south as well.

Polished and well made, true to form and it's signature style. It starts out nicely with loam, red fruits but then (for me) it becomes entirely herbal and its too obvious to me.

Jan 13th, 2014Eliminated any doubt I had that best Chileans are capable of ageing gracefully...layers of complexity vs the '11 tasted side by side, beautifully integrated and drifting north and east to Bordeaux. Nice.
