Calabria Private Bin Saint Macaire

I loooove trying new grape varieties and I'm pretty sure I've never had a Saint Macaire wine before! This lovely $15 bottle is from the Calabria Private Bin range (love the label!). The back label says the Saint Macaire grape is an 'extremely rare, late ripening red grape variety'. From what I've read it's a rare Bordeaux variety and I just love that Calabria are experimenting with something so out of the box and making it affordable too.
Purple red on the eye. Aromas of jam on warm toasted bread, sweet baking spice and rhubarb on the nose. On the palate it's friendly, approachable and definitely my kind of date. Fab red for spag bol night, ti amo St Macaire!
