What to say about my favorite Chateau? I’ve been lucky to have had so many vintages, starting with 1959, that I’m just tempted to say that it tastes like “old Leoville” and leave it at that….except that yesterday’s bottle of similarly aged Louis Martini Monte Rosso nudges it out by a nose…. This one has dried out more and is more astringent. But a fine bottle it is. — 3 years ago
Last of the ‘75s. Mid-shoulder. Mature but not over the hill. Well, maybe starting a gentle decline. Another triumph for the Durand corkscrew. — 3 years ago
On the edge but still very drinkable. — a year ago
Mature but very savory, and not fatiguing (14% abv). — a year ago
Just as good, if not better, than the last time we opened one of these. A gift from Alex’s godparents the Larsens. Signed by Louis P. Martini in 1993. — 3 years ago
Settled, structured, mature. A bit hot. — 3 years ago
In perfect condition and very fine, no signs of old age. — a year ago
Does every red wine improve with age? Or do I just like what age does to well-made wine? This one has achieved a great balance of fruit, savor, and depth. Thank you Cathy Corison! — 2 years ago
A bit Californian, Cabernet predominating in the bouquet. Well-balanced, looong finish. — 3 years ago

Jonathan’s 40th birthday wine, also 40 years old. Martha’s Vineyard 1984. Another old classic California Cabernet that won’t quit. Good cork, savory and aromatic, a fine old wine indeed! — 7 months ago
