Vinho Verde refers neither to a grape nor a blend. It is a region in the north of Portugal that is filled with green, rolling fields. The wine therefore reflects the light and refreshing environment where it comes from. This type of white wine has a pale platinum color with pronounced bubbles. It smells like nectarine and green apple with a hint of lime zest. On taste it is very fruity and moderate plus acidity. Flavors of grape and nectarine is definitely present. Goes well with cod or battered fried fish. — 8 years ago

When considering pairing wine with Thai food, no other one comes to mind but a good bottle of Riesling. This bottle from Washington state has a very fruity profile with predominant flavor of green apple, jasmine, green papaya, and mango. This bottle of sweet Riesling pairs very well with spicy dishes offered in Thai cooking. Enjoy with curry chicken, pad Thai, or fried duck. — 8 years ago

A very special dessert wine from the Niagara Peninsula. Deep gold in color and clear of sedimentation. Moderate viscosity with hardly any tears noted. On the nose are aromas of peaches, apricots, green apple, and cantaloupe. Tasted sweet with medium-low acidity and medium alcohol. Fruit flavors on the palette remain the same with pineapple added in to the mix. Drank it with friends for celebratory Sunday dinner paired with sweet potato pie as dessert. The pairing worked very well and created a harmonious balance in the mouth. Great Canadian Vidal Ice Wine for any occasion that is worth the price. — 8 years ago

This Italian rosé has all the wonderful fruity aromas one would expect of such a wine. Dominant flavors include strawberry, honeydew melon, orange peel, and pomegranate. There is a distinct smell of rose petals that accentuate the beautiful floral characteristics of the wine. It is on the dry side, with moderate body, moderate acidity, and moderate alcohol. It goes very well with blue cheese and Gorgonzola cheese. A beautifully poached halibut or salmon would harmonize with this wine. . For dessert it pairs very well with semi-sweet chocolate. — 8 years ago

Scarlet colored with a slight purple hue. Medium viscosity with stained tears. Aromas of blueberry, black currants, and cedar wood are pronounced with a hint of allspice noted. Hits the palette rather boldly than expected with moderate plus alcohol and moderate plus tannin. On taste blueberry and blackberry dominate with a nice coffee and fig flavor to balance out the fruits. Drank it with friends for Sunday dinner paired with tacos and Mexican salad. Pairs well with the bold Mexican flavors. Average table wine that neither surprises nor disappoints. — 8 years ago

What would an Italian dinner be without a good bottle of Sangiovese. This wine has a high acidity content with a moderate plus tannin and a moderate body. Flavors include roasted tomato, red currant, and black pepper. Essence of cinnamon and sandalwood is also noticeable. Pairs very well with rich meats and tomato-based dishes such as eggplant parmigiana. A good spaghetti with marinara sauce would also benefit from the flavor profile of this wine. For an extremely affordable wine it does the job well. But it's nothing too special. — 8 years ago
