Vegetal on the nose and layered on the palate. Subtle, light fruits play with earth, minerals and smoke. Medium tannins and more “earth” than fruit for this value blend. Improves with time to breathe. — 5 years ago
Tried this at a Cordon tasting and this stood out as the best of their great lineup. Rich and complex with dark fruits, tobacco and oak. One to savor! — 5 years ago
Tried this with no expectations and it knocked my socks off. Dark fruits on the nose followed by a burst of coffee, chocolate, berries, and spice on the palate. Texture was velvety but not overly tannic or acidic. Definitely a favorite! — 3 years ago
Beautiful showing of a classic Cab. Some cocoa and berries on the nose, with a bouquet of dark fruit, leather and mocha on the palate. I found heavier dried fruit (raisin?) upon opening that opened up to softer dark berries with aeration. Moderate tannins and mild acidity. No complaints! — 5 years ago
Impressive “weekday wine” as a very drinkable, but perhaps not overly remarkable, balanced cab. Wouldn’t rank on my favorites list but a good value. — 5 years ago

Though I tend to enjoy the NZ style sauvignon blancs, this was not for me. Dry, crisp and citrusy, but the acidity was overwhelming, and it was lacking in depth or complexity. Perhaps enjoyable if you're seeking a light, spritzy bargain wine, but I wouldn't buy again. — 5 years ago
Not as bold as the California cabs I’m accustomed to, but easy drinking. Fruity and balanced with very subtle spice and few tannins. Wouldn’t rank as a favorite, but definitely a good value. — 5 years ago
This is a big velvety red! More fruit on the nose than the palette, and rather resembles a Syrah in its weight. Some lovely dark fruits hide behind more dominant mocha, licorice, earth and leather. Acid and tannins are present but not overbearing. Nicely done! — 5 years ago

I’ve enjoyed Chalk Hill Cabernet before and bought this based on my prior good experiences. I’m not sure if this was a bad vintage or just a bad bottle but it was not drinkable. I literally poured it down the sink. There was no sign of spoilage but it tasted tart and slightly vinegary. Notably, I bought this on sale, so I wonder if the price was reduced for good reason! — 3 years ago
