Absolutely surprisingly a beauty for a Chardonnay. It's become a bit passé with all the super-oak. This is scrumptious. Paired with white chocolate, this is a gorgeous dessert wine. I know:surprising! — 10 years ago

Strawberry vanilla little alcohol forward but smoother than Tavel. More depth, less bite, little if and tannins. Not as bright and crisp as Tavel. More hors doevers or main course than stand alone — 10 years ago

Well above an average table wine, I suppose. But low on my scale of carmeneres I've had. — 10 years ago

2010 Rosé, Chateau de Trunquevendel, Tavel, France. Smells of strawberries and vanilla crème. Tastes of almost-ripe strawberries, grass, very light, fresh, little acidic finish. I was at a family gathering and tried a multitude of the foods there with the wine. The strawberry jello jigglers were the winner! Weird and unconventional, I know. To each their own so don't be snooty. The strawberry notes and flavor complimented each other. The sweet jello didn't make the wine more bitter. I've had this rosé before, and Tavel is known for their rosés. This is a good go-to. $17. I give it 86. — 10 years ago

2013 Belleruche by Maison M. Chapoutier, Côtes-de-Rhône. Another Rosé from this same district in which Tavel is located. This is a lovely wine! Smells of raspberries, strawberries, vanilla, little alcohol forward but smoother than Tavel. More depth, less bite, little if any tannins. Not as bright and crisp as Tavel. Nice body, very smooth finish. I liked this one more than the 2010 Tavel rosé in the previous post. I paired this with crispy-skin salmon using Chef Ramsay's directions: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SQuyOwNtAVM Interesting fact: starting in 1996, all M. Chapoutier bottle labels have Braille. $15. I give this a 90. — 10 years ago

I'm obsessed with Carménère ❤!! Chocolate, black pepper, pablano pepper, little leather (weird, I know, but not uncommon), little alcohol forward, very light tannins, dark ripe black cherry color, cherry notes too; very smooth, love the layering and complexity! I may buy a couple more of these to hang on to. $20. Rated 89. I give it a 90.

Dagoba xocolatl 74% dark chocolate with Carob nibs and chilies is perfect with the 2011 Primus Carménère from Colchagua Valley, Chile. These two on there own? YUM! Together? WOW! The spiciness takes you aback at first because it creeps up on you and is more than you think it's going to be. Nice tingle, not painful. The common notes of pepper and chocolate in the Carménère make this a really nice pairing. $3. Organic and cacao is Rainforest Alliance certified. Label says: You can deprive the body, but the soul needs chocolate.

Strawberry citrus lavender very very subtle cloves and fresh woodsy herbs. Mild tannins. Finish is very smooth, well-balanced. This is a classy elegant wine and very easy-going. — 10 years ago
