This was easily one of the best Sauvignon Blancs I've had in a while. Darker color than most, a bit more body. Softer citrus, mellow grassy notes and minerals but without that zingy bone dry finish of limestone. Finishes with some weight and length. Delicious! — 9 years ago
Seems riper than the 13 vintage, expressive floral and stone fruit qualities on the nose with with pleasant white peach and pear flavors. Certainly has a good bit of minerals on the finish but not as much as I remember. Can't wAit to try this again. — 9 years ago
I've been surprised by this wine every time I've tried it. Nice acid and refreshing fruit up front but with a surprising richness that lengthens the finish and makes you think, "Chenin?" Really nice, food friendly, dry and pretty. — 9 years ago
For the money, killer. Perfumed berries and a lingering floral quality. Much better than one would expect from basic Valpo. A great Monday-Wednesday night wine. — 9 years ago
I had this in honor of one of my favorite writers, Jim Harrison, who passed a few weeks back. He loved this wine and I haven't had it enough to love it. However, this time was a real eye-opener. Super funky nose upon opening, like leather and barnyard. But it opened up, and the first sip had a lot more black fruits with just that underlying funk. Turned out two hours in a decanter did this wine some justice. Complex and enjoyable, stood up to a porterhouse, enough fruit to make it immediately satisfying but with so much more going on. Tannins relatively light. — 9 years ago
Super-expressive nose of cherries, dust, a little bit black tea. In the mouth it veers a bit more to cranberry and the finish is upped by distinct cedary spice. Very well made, enjoyable. Would have been better with some lamb or gamey stew of some sort. — 9 years ago
I'm not the kind of guy who hankers for Muscadet, but this just may change my mind. There's a bit more fruit and body than what I'm used to. Not quite the saline acid bomb I was prepping myself for. A little melon, the flavor component of honey without any of the sweetness. Really pretty wonderful finish. A new hidden gem for me! — 9 years ago
Drank this way too early, even with decanting. Pleasant but still half asleep. Cherry and cedar aromas, a bit of that brick or chalk. Doesn't settle in the mouth as much as one might hope. Kind of glosses over the tongue. Good for sure but time will tell how good. — 9 years ago
I've had this wine several times before, but it was still a surprise. Such a juicy and delicious take on Sangiovese. Dark cherry and a touch of cedar, a bit of cocoa maybe that was uncharacteristic but pleasant. This is a very satisfying wine, ready to go upon opening. — 9 years ago

I'm a bit biased about this one since it's got my own blood, sweat and even a few tears in it. But it also surprised me. Pretty damned delicious with a nose that doesn't stop, a bit of old world loam and damp forest floor but plenty of bright fruit and youthful zing. Here's to you, Russ! — 8 years ago
