Appearance: medium bodied with garnet core and variation to salmon flesh rim
Nose: Chalky minerally damp leaves, some very light meaty notes
Taste: Very earthy notes of mushroom, forest floor, some oak touches that brighten and enhance some of the latency of red fruit. Lacks on the finish but really enjoying the balance of acidity, which is not terribly prominent but works with the minimal fruit notes.
Pairing: Lamb burger on pretzel bun with chèvre and caramelized shallots, and bacon braised Brussels sprouts
Overall, enjoying this greatly and a great pairing with the meal. It's a nice change of pace and middle ground between austere OR pinot and ripe CA pinot. Will sit on my last one for a few years but this is drinking just fine now. — 8 years ago
Appearance: deep dark magenta with slight variation throughout, opaque; medium-heavy body
Nose: Slight whiff of alcohol, stewed black and blueberries, creamy toasty oak but not overly so
Taste: beautiful velvety roundness in the mouth with great acidity to balance out the fruit profile, which is full of blackberries and toasty creaminess from the oak
First Ridge, and can totally see why it is well-regarded; the balance, even at a young age, is really incredible. Paired with Moroccan spiced ground lamb in eggplant boats, and totally held up in a unique, complimentary way. — 8 years ago
Always a good showing from TRB - great wine for the price.
Appearance: Deep, translucent magenta with slight variation to the rim, medium body
Nose: Violets, stewed blueberries, orange peel
Taste: Silky smooth purple flowers and dark, blue, caramelized berries. Some orange peel mid palate. The wine is certainly a darker CA pinot with some cola characteristics that are kept in check with balanced acidity and some medium tannins.
Paired this with a ground lamb puff pastry topped with creamy chanterelle-thyme sauce and a fried quail egg - the wine held up quite well to the richness of the dish. This is a buy every year. — 8 years ago
Appearance: Glossy magenta and clear at the rim, medium-light body
Nose: Getting very little in the way of aromatics but baking spices and earthiness
Taste: On open there was some bitterness that faded about 2 hours open in bottle to enhance some of the violet, blue fruit notes and some crunchy tannins; similar structure I taste in some lighter Beaujolais, which I like.
Overall very enjoyable wine that will probably improve with a couple more years, but would favor a few other options in the same or lower price range ($28 here) - #Goodfellowfamilycellars #WalterScottWine — 8 years ago
Opened to pair with a steak because why the hell not.
Appearance: Ruby red with some very faint cloudiness and variation to pale at the rim
Nose: Red fruits, fresh herbs, earthiness
Taste: Bright liveliness on the tongue with alcohol in balance. There is really pretty vibrant hibiscus and cranberry with some secondary earthy notes that became more prominent in later glasses.
Overall, very pleasant wine for the price and complimented the meal well given the herb notes and the healthy dose of thyme butter applied to the steak. Demonstrates OR Pinot typicity quite well. — 8 years ago
Vincent '15 Pinot Noir (Ribbon Ridge) - 13.1%
Appearance: Cloudy, magenta, medium light body
Nose: Spicy strawberry rhubarb
Taste: Soft initially with spicy jammy red fruits, rhubarb, strawberry, Rainier cherry, and some earthy loamy notes. Very mild tartness on the back end with good structure and mild tannins
Pop n' pour, drank over an hour or so and improved over time. First Vincent wine, and look forward to trying the Chardonnay, Blanc and Gamay - for the price this is a beauty that shows character of the Willamette finesse and soft, earthy subtlety. Pairing wasn't very well thought out, but we drank with a basil bechamel sauce over roasted cauliflower rice and ground veal and it worked surprisingly well. — 8 years ago
Love this juice! Checked in on it tonight after a year since our last.
Appearance: Medium light body, deep garnet with very light opacity
Nose: Fresh strawberries and hibiscus, very flowery
Taste: Rose and bunches of flowers, strawberry juice, some savory meatiness. Lively and so well balanced, this has integrated well over the past year.
Beautifully balanced and likely still a couple of years from hitting its stride, although it is great now and I would not hesitate to check in on one if you have a few to spare. We love the brooding but balanced feel of this wine - one of our first, and favorite, Patty Greens. — 8 years ago
I have somewhat limited experience with domestic Riesling, but this is so crushable.
Appearance: Pale gold with a very slight greenish tinge, light to medium body, translucent
Nose: Lemon rind, pineapple, petrol-plastic (in the best way)
Taste: pineapple without the biting acidity or sweetness, some green melon, light petrol, Granny Smith green apple
Would say a pleasant surprise but Marcus Goodfellow just kills it more often than not. We paired this with Thai chili crab cakes and a green apple slaw with chili lime cashews and fish sauce based marinade. Perfection. Need some more of this in my life. — 8 years ago
Love it. Such an incredible value.
Appearance: Clear and polished ruby/magenta with slight variation to the rim; medium body and legs
Nose: getting some alcohol and smoked meats, earthiness
Taste: Dark red fruit core with good structure and tannins; alcohol is a bit noticeable at the point but should integrate well over the next year or two; some very light and pleasant menthol sort of notes
We paired this with beef Wellington and roasted potatoes smothered in duck fat, gruyere and thyme. It held up beautifully and didn't overtake the dish. We opened 2 hrs before and let it passively decant in bottle - may play around with a hard decant, etc. guessing day 2 for this one will be even better. — 8 years ago
Tim
Appearance: Medium body, polished and translucent with a brilliant honeyed gold color
Nose: Honeysuckle, fresh whipped cream, white flowers
Taste: Light buttercream, honey, marzipan, almond paste
Enjoyed this as a classic WV Chardonnay - strikes me as a very solid compromise between California and Oregon profiles, with some weight and very light buttery mouthfeel, but with the purity and focus I've come to expect from fine Chardonnay from the Willamette. Beautifully paired with baked trout and a buttery sauce of roasted parsnips, thyme, oyster mushrooms and cream. Definitely will be hanging on to the other two for a couple of years. — 8 years ago
