Pours dark inky. Dusty bouquet. Initial dark fruit then explodes with black raspberries and dark fruit in the middle that fills your mouth. Then ends with a short jammy dryness. A bold merlot. — 6 years ago
Tasty, great representation of the 707 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 8 years ago
This has a very cool-climate-feel to it, yet showes a clear Australian footprint. Cassis, grilled pepper, sandalwood, mint, tea tree?, ferrous minerality, resinous oak. Seems more Cab Franc than Sauv at the moment.
Really dig those classic High-End Ozzy Cabs like Penfolds' 707, Moss Wood CS and this one. Appreciate your suggestions in this direction. So, keep them coming..! — 10 years ago
Very Penfolds nose. Plummy notes with some herb and mint. This wine from a lesser vintage (no 707 made) but still has lush fruit at 14 years of age. 17+. — 12 years ago

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Not showing much age.
Beautiful nose of blueberries, blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, spices, licorice, cedar, earth, chocolates, vanilla, rhubarb and black pepper.
Medium plus in body and soft, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cherries, toast, cedar, light vanilla, mediterranean spices, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth and peppercorn.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia. Rich and elegant. Fruit forward and complex. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Spicy and entertaining.
Good right out of the bottle, and better after 60 minutes of airtime.
Robert Parker 91 points. Wine Spectator 91 points.
This 23 year old is drinking beautifully now and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.
I've had a few vintages of this wine and it is very consistent.
Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food like lamb dishes.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new American oak barrels for 14 months.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
94 points.

You would never pick this as a 26 year old red wine from the colour. A rich Ruby red with no tawny rim. This has the Penfolds DNA of ripe plum, mocha, coffee bean and chocolate - a trace of liquorice. The palate is medium plus weight, balanced and harmonious maintaining that core strength. Those initially firm tannins have become supple. Drinking at its peak but could stay on this plateau for a couple more years. My last bottle of the 96 but I still have a few more bottles of the Bin 707 from 1996 which was a huge wine. — 4 years ago

From Magnum. Leeuwin Estate’s Cabernets are becoming as good as their famous Chardonnays. Herbaceous with cassis mineral and savoury tannins. Not as full bodied as the 707 which followed but this is more Text Book Left Bank Cabernet with a long life ahead. Excellent. — 9 years ago
Very enjoyable - as good as 707 in my view. Still too young vintage — 11 years ago
707 REPREZENT - JAMMY & DELICIOUS — 12 years ago
Again I had this at a friends tasting last Sunday afternoon. No notes taken but I recall more honeyed and mature than Chablis oyster shell characteristics. I should add that Penfolds 1990 707 in the image to the right was exceptional. Drinking at its peak from a good vintage with still some years to go. 97 points for the 707. — 2 years ago

Dense Ruby from an excellent ripe vintage. Blackberry, black currant and cassis - a classic South Australian Cabernet in all senses, complete with some herbal notes. It’s nothing like its big brother Bin 707 which is bigger and more full bodied even though the 407 has a drinking window through to 2045 according to the Rewards of Patience. The fruit for the 407 is multi regional from all major vineyard districts in South Australia. It is not often you open a 16 year old wine and say you’ve opened it too early but this could be the case here. — 4 days ago
