Walnut Wash Vineyard Petite Sirah 2012

I don't usually pair my wine with music, but this wine calls for two songs, Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix and Purple Rain by Prince. I really wanted to mention Purple Rain, because that's one of my all time favorite songs, soundtracks, and movies. This Petite Sirah from Coquerel Wines in Calistoga, Califorina is so purple, it's almost black. The fruit flavors are equally dark: blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry, and plum. Add pepper, spice, and ample acidity and you have a total package Petite Sirah. You won't mind that your teeth are stained when you are finished sipping. This was a sample I didn't request, but do not regret receiving. If you love Petite Sirah, you will love this one. $39 direct from the winery. — 9 years ago

Walnut Wash Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Has almost 8 years in bottle where it developed a complex lively apple cider theme. This oxidized and evolved into a caramel appley vinegar tropical mix.

Beautiful apricot golden color. Smoked peaches, apple cider, and tarragon on the nose.

Acid hanging around after all these years.

Flavors of dried pineapple and dried mango and plenty more apple cider to sip through.

2013. Lovely! This does NOT seem like a 14% alc Chardonnay. Flinty, balanced, with some apricot. Stunning with grilled salmon, and artichokes. — 9 years ago

Terroir Coquerel Pinot Noir 2011

Coquerel sources these grapes from the Sonoma Coast and that show in the wine. Lean, good acidity. Good amount of fruit but nothing like a RRV Pinot. 13.5% Alcohol. I would drink it now, don’t think it’s getting any better. Great with food - completed the smoked turkey and avocado salad we had with it. — 5 years ago

Terroir Coquerel Calistoga Tempranillo 2011

For a wine with such a highly concentrated hue, it has a rather faint set of aromas. Blackberry comes forward, timidly. Nice to get a whiff of smoke at the top of the glass. The black fruit is large on the palate and a strong sense of earth, minerals, is present. It's a savory quaff, with oak spice on that minerality. It’s a good wine, very good, but at twice the price of an excellent Rioja it can hardly be considered a deal. — 9 years ago
