Wow!! Lovely wine! Wish I bought a crate! — 7 years ago
Ebon and inscrutable, lacing showing creamy curtain to cosmic shatter; coffee ice cream colored. Moist, rum raisin cake baking alongside Black Forest cake with walnuts. Heavy lavender in a rough cut oak crate, makes this smell really beautiful. Vanilla and caramel chocolates entice. Bakers dark unsweetened chocolate, tastes of aniseed, clove, nutmeg, peppercorn; the whole toasty barrel. Burnt fig, cinnamon, espresso bean, with a clear charred oak concealing allspice and malt, in line with its working spirit. Impressive beer, evoking coal and tar pits with its smoky, austere reimagining of dark vulcan arts. Not a sweet one, but fiery and thick on the edges of the cauldron. — 7 years ago
Night six on the Allure of the Seas and wine number seven from the wine crate. This night we are at Samba Grill Brazilian Steakhouse.
Deep ruby red. Attack on the nose was soft with notes of dark spices, anise and iron. Seems to need a little bit of time but the 2011 characteristics keep poking through with notes of twigs, herbal and greenery. With a bit more time came some cinnamon and dark red berries. Medium tannins (6/10) with solid acidity. Seems younger than the nose when you get to the palate with black currants, cassis, bramble red berries and a touch of heat. Medium to medium plus bodied with a little bit of earthiness in the medium plus to full finish. Drink till 2026. — 9 years ago
John Wayne's son, Ethan, teamed up with Jayson Woodbridge at Hundred Acre to crate this 80 proof homage to his 100 proof dad, who was a lover of great brandies and kept a stash of a few barrels on his boat, that has been sealed for 30 years. Duke Special Reserve brandy, made from a blend of the last two remaining 24 and 30 year-old barrels, produced by a 12th-generation master distiller. Originally distilled in an alambic pot still using seven fraction distillation. This is just spectacular stuff, as you would expect from a 24+ year old brandy. — 10 years ago

Glad you posted this, never heard of it!The Charlie Brown Xmas of wines. The bottle is wounded, but underneath it's thriving, offering a lush, creamy dive into yellow apples, tangerine, mushroom crate, and popcorn butter. The golden color was gorgeous. The finish was assertive, but not insistent. — 11 years ago
Absolutely yum. Very easy to drink and ultra smooth but full bodied. Very fruity, clean tasting. Almost tastes as if it has a sparkling hint. Will buy a crate. — 7 years ago
Beautiful fresh summer red berries accented by smoke & spice. Juicy acid frames the fruit. This is straightforward and delicious. I have no idea if there is another Gamay/Persan blend in this world, but I’d buy it. This is a definitive Leo Kottke collection and makes a great target if you’re ever crate digging. — 7 years ago

Night six on the Allure of the Seas and wine number eight from the wine crate. This night we are at Samba Grill Brazilian Steakhouse.
Deep garnet red. Dark and layered nose with notes of cinnamon, spices, menthol, and a touch of damp leaves. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Rich and powerful on the palate, drinking at its peak right now. Layers of cassis, black currants, some forest floor and herbal elements. Strong acidity too. Long finish. Drink till 2027. — 9 years ago

Nama sake 2017. Come on skiing with a crate of sake and balancing another bottle on the head. Using rice scoop as poles. Every sakephile's dream. — 9 years ago
Easily the most elaborately packaged wine of recent memory. Wood crate, tissue paper, wax top (+additional seal), instruction booklet, paint dipped, heavy glass bottle. Whew. But this is serious pug loan wine. Excellent stuff! — 10 years ago
Yummy!! Paired with medium rare NY strip and fresh asparagus grilled (charcoal) and corn on the cob. Uncorked for 30 minutes prior to first sip. Need to find a crate of this vintage! — 10 years ago
Delicious. Utterly delicious. People should buy this by the crate. — 11 years ago

The Gut Oggau wines are the now famous illustrations of a fictional family. Atanasius is the son of Wiltrude and Joshuari. He’s clean cut, mature for a young age, bright and mysterious.
