This wine in a few words, "rustic elegance". Definitely in the pretty side of the north Rhône. Pristinely ripe red fruits (red plum and pomegranate) are joined by a sprinkling of something darker and a little dried, morello cherry or black raspberry. Pretty red floral accents as well. This reveals its true identity with a basso profundo blast of beef stock meatiness, BBQ smoke, and cured Moroccan black olives. Earthy tilled soil, porcini, tobacco, and a light molasses-y sweetness from oak round this profound and complicated wine. The purity, length, and seamless texture here are astounding. Proof that the grandmaster abides and it tastes like more than 500 years of winemaking expertise. Ne plus ultra for the appellation assuredly and a great way to understand the heart of Syrah. Not backwards or shut down at all, but this has a very long life in front of it. — 11 years ago

Had a chance to meet Collioure grandmaster Bruno Duchêne last Friday @ Verre Volé à Tokyo | He owns 4 ha on schist soil and makes a very impressive grenache-based line up | 2008 La Pascole (90% grenache, 10% carignan) was fresh as a daisy! #glou — 11 years ago

Fantastic nose. Bam!
Unfortunately needs a bit more acid. Grandmaster behind this one. Great value for price point but just missing a little something. Still happy to drink it. Will give it some time. — 8 years ago
