Il Padrone McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018

Rich bold and delicious. This is a hard hitting big red which I really enjoy. Give me more — 5 years ago

The Lear mcLaren Vale Shiraz 2014

Heavy handed oak but it works here. Real indulgent kind of wine, but a firm tannin profile keeps everything nicely in shape — 7 years ago

Twist McLaren Vale Primitivo 2013

Great to see Zinfandel, so common in the US, grown in Australia. Strong blackcurrant flavour with subtle anise. Pepper in the aftertaste. At a whopping 15% alcohol content the tannic is not at all overwhelming. Very very good drop (maybe a touch young). — 9 years ago

It's prone to uneven ripening even within individual bunches, which presents dilemmas at vintage time. In California the rugged reds are so dry that finesse is not really an issue.

McLaren Vale Petit Verdot 2012

Sort of savoury fresh fruit on the nose. Red fruit. Med body palate. Great integrated acidity. Smooth tannin. Structure is balanced with acid poking up just a little but not offensive. Just good wine. — 10 years ago
