Really enjoyed this at Palio Restaurant in Leesburg. It was several months ago so I really don't remember details other than I loved it. — 9 years ago

Strong, fruity red Italian wine 🍷, pleasent finish — 10 years ago
Scoring big this evening, as this Calistoga 100% merlot is a spice fest for one's nose reminding me of an early morning forest run, breaking out into a fresh meadow, where I scoop up a handful of blue an black berries and engage. Very cool! Buy this wine!! Also, the fresh, raw kale Ceasar at Il Palio is right-on..:)!

Drank this at the Palio, 2011. My horse finished second. This wine, at dinner that night, made up for it! — 14 years ago

Loved this Brunello! Tried 2011 vintage on Dec 29, 2017. Let it sit in the glass for 5 min and it really opens up. Nose has distinct hint of dark chocolate, the usual blackberries and some oak. The taste is on the light side, but quite gripping and not bland at all. — 8 years ago
Reminiscent of Beaujolais' Gamay, this southern part of Tuscany's Ampeleia is producing some fine red wine! Mine tonight, after 30 minutes swim and spin in the decanter's pool of naked open space and air shows first to the nose wet rocks, slate and sandstone freshly accenting menthol and anise then strictly earthen dirt and minerals and a hint of the berries. First kiss is lightly but intriguingly nasty, wet and dripping red fruit which immediately coats and clings but most interestingly reaches back for the wet rocks overlooking the Med, then re-engages just in time to leave hints of her red and blue berry essence complimenting the blackened octopus in a mash of white beans and spices laced with a hint of Tabasco offered up by Chapel Hill's Il Palio located off Franklin Street (checkout both) Ciao🕶 — 10 years ago

A 96 holding up well! Lots of spice on the nose with a blueberry/blackberry first blush that I hoped would continue, but, I think, over time, the long finish has seen better days (missing the drift). Nonetheless less, this delicious wine is complimenting my calamari pomodoro at Il Palio, in Chapel Hill, NC, at the Sienna Hotel (now a Marriott Autograph property). Good wine, great vibe, cool people..:)! Special thanks to Rachel behind the bar! — 12 years ago

Occhipinti Siccagno Nero d'Avola 2013
She came on dark turning rubyesque, a spin and first kiss, dripping red from my lip to my white linen cuff, not unlike the juicy explosion of a ripe blackberry, her color and allure dancing in the decanter, then leaning closer, more warmly spilling into my glass, she dips and turns, another spin, I breathe her in and her earthen essence laced lightly but luxuriously in red and black fruit lingers and lures me to drink, her acid does a balancing act with a purple plum preponderance her tannins squeeze holding the moment, we go deeper, darker until she dives disrobing as she rolls, slides, sideslips and seduces another dance, another turn, another twist - "and the band plays on..." For the love of the juice🍷🕶🌀
PS: kale salad @ Il Palio, in Chapel Hill is brilliant! Don't miss that place when there, or, make it a destination - digging their grilled octopus, too🍷🕶🌀 — 10 years ago
Perfectly ready to drink and enjoy, and I am:)! Pairing with a Sicilian styled calamari @ Il Palio, in Chapel Hill, NC. Beautiful antique-esque nose with lots of red fruit on first blush properly cut with well-worn tannins, acidity, etc. lingering into a long unctuous finish. Good stuff! Go for it..:)! — 12 years ago
