Riserva Poggio Reale Chianti Sangiovese Blend 1955

We selected this bottle to celebrate my mom’s 71st birthday. Opened with a Durand and allowed to Audouze for an hour prior to service and enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The cork was almost completely saturated and so did its job with aplomb. The 1955 Riserva pours a deep garnet with a translucent core; medium viscosity with light staining and loads of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with desiccated cherry, dried red flowers, porchini, leather, old wood, and a mix of organic and inorganic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. It’s always a special treat when an old bottle shows well. I found it to be a delicious pairing with duck confit and rabbit sausage. Drink now with some patience to stretch its legs. Bottle No. 4652/12800 — 18 days ago
