Touchstone

Beaux Frères

The Beaux Frères Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008

Incredibly light, smooth, and fruity. I think I will use it as touchstone for Pinot Noir. — 10 years ago

Miani

Buri Colli Orientali Del Friuli Friulano 2011

2011. Miani is still my touchstone for white wine. Blind this would be confused with top white burgundy. Spicy mineral nose, some wood, and great balance between fat and acid. — 10 years ago

Kir-Yianni Estate

Ramnista Naoussa Xinomavro 2008

100% Xinomavro, imported by Vos Selections. Upon opening, an extremely inviting nose (cigar box, cherry cola, earth, spice) and unforgiving palate (hard and acidic, while relatively light in color and weight). I had read this compares to old-school Nebbiolo, and that is definitely my closest touchstone. Very excited to see how this develops. — 12 years ago

This really integrates eventually flavor-wise, though still hard-hitting structurally. A wine packed to the gills with character, built for food and built for age. I may need to order a case.
