Terre Nere Campigli Vallone Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018: Medium bodied. Perfect balance between tannins & acidity. Fruity youthful taste. Bright fresh notes of red fruits; additional tobacco, herbs & spice. Dry soft finish. Overall, high QPR for this Montalcino Sangiovese; a great vintage even though it’s a younger & lighter Rosso but it can easily compete with more expensive Brunellos! Highly recommend. Dark bright straw. Very fresh and precise on the nose and palate, with lively harmonious acidity nicely lifting the lemon, apricot and spicy flavors. Really sings on the long, brisk finish. Permartina has always been Vallona’s most interesting white wine and it is no different this year. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, Jan 2018)

Popped and poured; consumed over two days. On Day 1, giving new meaning to “Riserva”, the 2013 Terre Nere Riserva was quite shy with hints of tart cherry and earth but that’s about it. However, I could tell that underneath the shell, there was a wine of tremendous substance…but it was going to need some time to get comfortable with its surroundings. We finished our glass and placed the cork back in the neck of the bottle to revisit the next day. Day 2 aaaaand here we go! Bright cherries, dried green herbs, bergamot, black tea, dusty earth, Asian spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with tannins in the medium+ category and acid following suit. The notes from the nose are confirmed on the palate. The finish is long and savory. And the texture: silky smooth. This is a gorgeous Brunello that’s packed with depth but needs patience to realize it’s true form. I expect a long life yet ahead. — 2 years ago

Usually not a fan of sparkling wine, but this is perfect. Wow 🤩 — 3 years ago
Tannins. Pepper. And a mellow, round aftertaste. I had no idea they produced such great cabs in the Emilia Romagna, but I can see how well it goes with a proper Bolognese ragú. Highly recommend — 8 years ago

Opened about an hour prior to taking dinner at Via Farina. The 2015 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. No obvious signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of powerful, dark and red fruits: black cherry, ripe strawberries, horse blanket, red flowers, new leather, black tea, exotic spices and dry earth. A touch of VA. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a beautiful, powerful example of Terre Nere BdM with the best parts of the 2015 vintage on full display. Bold and balanced. Lovely now and wouldn’t hesitate to open one if you’ve been patiently waiting. A solid pairing with a variety of central Italian fair. Drink now with some air and through 2035. — a month ago
