Welcome to this week's Must-Try Wines from Vinous! Each week we compile a list of wines from the Vinous database that you need to add to your wine wish list. With all the various regions, producers, and grapes, no week will be the same! All of the wines listed in this feature are available for purchase on Banquet . This week's must-try wines are from Eric Guido’s article, Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Just Try to Keep Up . Enjoy an excerpt from his article and reviews below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the most culturally and climatically diverse regions in Italy. It should come as no surprise that the region produces a vast range of wines as a result. From crisp varietal whites and richer blends, to wild, indigenous reds and extended skin-contact, amphora-aged wines, the wines of Friuli run the gamut. Quality can be variable, so readers must be selective.” --Eric Guido, Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Just Try to Keep Up, April 2022 1. 2020 Bacaro Pinot Grigio 2. 2019 Borgo del Tiglio Studio di Bianco 3. 2019 Borgo del Tiglio Ronco della Chiesa 4. 2019 Jermann Vintage Tunina 5. 2019 Ronco del Gnemiz Schioppettino 6. 2020 Ronco del Gnemiz Sauvignon Blanc Serena Palazzolo e Figli 7. 2020 Ronco del Gnemiz Chardonnay Sol 8. 2020 Venica & Venica Pinot Grigio Jesera 9. 2020 Venica & Venica Sauvignon Ronco delle Mele 10. 2019 Vie di Romans Chardonnay Ciampagnis

Ronco delle Mele Collio Sauvignon 2020

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2020 Sauvignon Ronco delle Mele impresses with musky dried peaches, pears, candied lime and pungent yellow florals that form with time in the glass. There are depths of silky textures, seeming almost oily at times; yet balance is expertly maintained as nuances of kiwi and sweet exotic spices collect upon the senses. Sour tropical melon, crystalized ginger and hints of mint all linger long, while the 2020 tapers off with tension, yet still incredibly fresh. This is a fantastic Ronco delle Mele for the near term or short-term cellaring. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2020)

Vintage Tunina Venezia Giulia White Blend 2019

Delectable Wine
9.0

Young peaches and pears are complemented by notes of wet slate and yellow flowers as the 2019 Vintage Tunina unfolds in the glass. It balances savory mineral tension with a pretty inner sweetness, coming across round in feel yet motivated by brisk acidity. Hints of candied lime and green apple linger through the zesty finale, pinching at the cheeks with citrusy concentration. Cellaring might reveal further depths, yet the 2019 is already enjoyable on its zesty fruit-forward character. That said, I don’t find the seriousness or aging potential that you would expect here. The Vintage Tunina is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio 2020

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2020 Pinot Grigio impresses with a burst of ripe apple, pear, sweet florals and smoke. It’s soft-textured with citrus-tinged acids and ripe orchard fruits. This leaves the palate pleasantly refreshed while tapering off with a hint of raw almond. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Jesera Collio Pinot Grigio 2020

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2020 Pinot Grigio Jesera is savory and mineral in style, as crushed stone and flinty pear give way to nuances of incense. There’s a pleasant inner sweetness here, along with silky textures and cooling acidity that makes for a highly pleasurable sip, as the 2020 tapers off with medium length and spicy. Ronco del Gnemiz

Serena Palazzolo e Figli Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Serena Palazzolo e Figli is very easy to like. Both spicy and intense, with smoky crushed stone giving way to musky peach and hints of confectionery spice. This washes across the palate, with round yet juicy textures delivering ripe orchard fruits and hints of candied lime. Its stimulating minerality and sour citrus add poise, yet not so much to slow its momentum, as the 2020 finishes long and wickedly fresh. This would make a great gateway wine for lovers of Sauvignon looking to explore Friuli. The Serena Palazzolo e Figli is a blend of fruit from throughout the Ronco del Gnemiz vineyards. Its minerality and sour citrus character keep the experience engaging to say the least. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Borgo del Tiglio (Nicola Manferrari)

Studio di Bianco Collio Sauvignon Blend 2019

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2019 Studio di Bianco opens slowly in the glass, remarkably pretty and refined, with dusty yellow flowers that give way to hints of flint and freshly sliced nectarine. Further coaxing brings forward hints of dried peaches and incense. It’s silky and polished in feel, yet youthfully inward, with mineral-tinged orchard fruits and inner florals that somehow have a dusty character. This tapers off structured yet long with a sweet melon note that lingers on and on. The 2019 is completely harmonious with a stunning blend of sapid fruit and brilliant acidity. It should mature beautifully in collectors’ cellars. This was tasted both from a freshly opened bottle and one that was opened 24 hours prior, which only helped the wine to blossom further. The Studio di Bianco is a blend of 40% Friulano, 35% Sauvignon and 35% Riesling, depending on the vintage. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Ronco del Gnemiz

Sol Chardonnay 2020

Delectable Wine
9.4

Dusty white flowers and nuances of vanilla bean contrasted by crushed green apple, curry leaf and ashen stone waft up from the 2020 Chardonnay Sol to create a beguiling bouquet. This is a contrasting expression, with ripe fruits and silky textures offset by mineral-tinged acids and hints of sour citrus. It leaves the palate vibrating with tension and refreshed while closing with persistence, as a hint of almond paste lingers. I’m dreaming of white Burgundy while sipping this; yet there’s no need, because the Chardonnay Sol overdelivers. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Ronco del Gnemiz

Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Schioppettino is remarkably pretty and floral, with violets and roses complementing its wild red berries and hints of smoke. This is soft-textured and lifted in feel, yet also packed full of fleshy raspberry fruit, as exotic spices build within. It leaves a tinge of sour citrus while finishing lightly structured and with a staining like liquid lavender. Lovers of Schioppettino will fall head over heels for the 2019. Ronco della Chiesa Collio Tocai Friulano 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2019 Ronco della Chiesa is smoky yet elegant in the glass with flinty crushed peaches, nuances of sweet spice and wet stone. It’s silky and polished in feel with a lovely inner sweetness and a slight tropical tone to its fruit, yet the balance is on point. The 2019 finishes long and floral, leaving hints of melon. This is an interesting vintage of Ronco della Chiesa, a varietal Friulano, as it has a distinctive confectionary character, yet comes across as completely harmonious. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)
