Welcome to this week's Must-Try Wines from Vinous! Each week we compile a list of wines from the Vinous database that you need to add to your wine wish list. With all the various regions, producers, and grapes, no week will be the same! All of the wines listed in this feature are available for purchase on Banquet . This week's must-try wines are from Vinous’ article, Trentino & Alto Adige: The Sky’s the Limit . Enjoy an excerpt from this article and reviews below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Trentino and Alto Adige appear to be on the cusp of grasping unheralded potential. For many years, a microcosm of cooperatives and growers, both large and small-scaled, have been turning out some of the best white wines in Italy, but they were the exception, not the rule. However, through a renewed sense of place, a focus on purity and, in some cases, the effects of global warming, that number is steadily increasing.” --Eric Guido, Trentino & Alto Adige: The Sky’s the Limit, June 2022 1. 2020 Abbazia di Novacella Grüner Veltliner 2. 2020 Abbazia di Novacella Pinot Grigio 3. 2011 Cantina Terlano Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg 4. 2019 Cantina Terlano Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg 5. 2019 Cantina Terlano Pinot Noir Riserva Monticol 6. 2018 Foradori Teroldego Granato 7. 2019 Foradori Teroldego 8. 2019 Foradori Nosiola Fontanasanta 9. 2016 San Leonardo 10. 2017 San Leonardo Terre di San Leonardo

Tenuta San Leonardo

Terre di San Leonardo Vigneti delle Dolomiti Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2017 Terre di San Leonardo keeps you coming back to the glass to take in its intense bouquet of spiced raspberries, black licorice, crushed chalk and peppery florals. This is silky with depths of dark wild berries and inner herbal tones, all accelerated by brisk acids and a subtle hint of sour citrus. It leaves the palate reeling, lightly structured yet spry, as a primary coating of red and black fruit slowly fades. The warmth of the vintage has imparted another level of richness that isn’t often found from the Terre di San Leonardo, making it an excellent option for near-term enjoyment. This is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Carmenère from the younger vines on the San Leonardo estate. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Granato Teroldego 2018

Delectable Wine
9.2

The dark and brooding 2018 Granato mixes wild berries with savory herbs, crushed rocks, brown spice and a hint of animal musk. This is a more lifted and vertical expression on the palate, with bright acids and mineral-tinged red and black fruits that seem to hover across the senses. The 2018 leaves a coating of grippy tannins, yet remains energetic and fresh, as inner violet tones and nuances of blackberries slowly fade. Only a short stay in the cellar should be required before the 2018 really starts to show its merit. That said, it’s an effort to enjoy sooner while the more structured vintages climb toward maturity. Vorberg Riserva Terlano Pinot Bianco 2011

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2011 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is wonderfully fresh and perfumed, with hints of custard giving way to pretty yellow flowers, nuances of chamomile and citrus-tinged apple. This is soft and round on the palate, with lifting acids and sweet inner herbal tones coming across as fully resolved and giving, yet also finessed. It tapers off with a lemony concentration that lingers long. The 2011 is gorgeous today, and it shows remarkable lift for being the result of a warm vintage. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Tenuta San Leonardo

San Leonardo Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Delectable Wine
9.6

Another year in bottle has added unexpected depths and dimension to the 2016 San Leonardo. It wafts up with an alluring bouquet of smoky black currant and plum skins, complicated by savory herbs, hints of white pepper and fresh tobacco. It's hard chiseled edges have formed into smooth contours now, velvety yet youthfully dense, washing mineral encased dark red and black berries across a core of brisk acidity as a combination of saline-minerals and grippy tannins add tension toward the close. This finishes incredibly long yet also structured, begging for time in the cellar, as hints of licorice and earth tones grumble under an air of inner violet florals. The potential within the 2016 San Leonardo is off the charts, yet it will require a good amount of time to come fully into focus. Bury your bottles deep. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Riserva Monticol Pinot Noir 2019

Delectable Wine
9.2

The darkly alluring 2019 Pinot Noir Riserva Monticol opens slowly in the glass, with crushed rocks, flint and dusty dried roses fading to black cherries and clove. This is like pure silk on the palate, yet with a saline core that adds savory depths. A cascade of juicy wild berry fruits flesh out across the palate. The 2019 Monticol tapers off with staining concentration and a coating of sweet tannins, yet it remains remarkably vibrant, lingering with hints of licorice and exotic spice. The Monticol is refined in a combination of large casks (30%) and barriques (70%) for a year prior to bottling. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

The 2020 Pinot Grigio wafts up with pretty notes of young peach flesh, musky florals and crushed rocks. This is a pure, lifted expression and is energetic as well, with ripe orchard fruits and cooling mineral tones. It tapers off medium in length and with a salty concentration. Fontanasanta Vigneti Delle Dolomiti Nosiola 2019

Delectable Wine
9.0

Floral-laced peaches and apricots mix with an air of sweet smoke as the 2019 Nosiola Fontanasanta opens in the glass. This soothes with soft textures, while it also excites with a core of citrus-tinged acidity and salty minerals. The 2019 takes a turn toward the tropical spectrum through the finale, leaving hints of kiwi and young mango to linger. This is a very pretty and energetic vintage for the Fontanasanta Nosiola. There’s a pretty herbal and mentholated freshness that greets the senses as the 2019 Teroldego opens in the glass. Further coaxing brings forward bright strawberry and cherry, along with rosy florals and crushed stone. It’s soft-textured yet potent, with tart red berries and mineral underpinnings propelled by juicy acidity. Finishes fresh and juicy, leaving sweet tannins to linger. Vorberg Riserva Terlano Pinot Bianco 2019

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2019 Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg has an exotic flair, blending rich notes of vanilla custard with white flowers, crushed pears and hints of sweet spice. It’s silky and deeply textural, washing creamy waves of ripe orchard fruits across the palate, while leaving saline-minerals that create a more tactile feel. There are depths yet unseen here, as the 2019 comes across as densely packed and layered, yet with perfect balance and a tart citrus reverberation that adds energy. It finishes long and lightly structured, leaving the palate completely refreshed. This is just a baby today, yet it is full of potential. I tasted the Vorberg from a freshly opened bottle and one that had been opened for two days without any sign of decline. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Valle Isarco Grüner Veltliner 2020

The 2020 Grüner Veltliner is coy in the glass, as dusty florals and hints of lemon-tinged peach wafts up from the glass. This is soft with a salty flourish up front and finessed. Its fruit leans toward the green apple spectrum. Pretty tropical florals appear toward the close, finishing crisp and fresh with a caking of minerality. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)
