2018 Harvey and Harriet is made up of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Syrah, 14% Petite Sirah, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot, aging in 75% new French oak. Deep ruby-black in color, it has a very layered nose with aromas of exotic spices, crème de cassis, blackcurrant bud, tar and tilled black soil with hints of violet, lilac, cardamom and baking spices. The medium to full-bodied palate is silky and has a great interplay of fruit and spice. It has a firm, pleasantly chalky frame and just enough freshness, finishing long with a youthful cloaking of oak spice Delightfully deep and appealing. — 4 days ago

Deep garnet-purple colored, it prances out of the glass with carefree plum preserves, blackcurrant pastilles and dried mulberries scents plus nuances of candied violets, tobacco leaf, wild sage and charcuterie with a waft of tapenade. In 2008 bud break began very early. There were initial threats of frost but our vineyards, situated on hillsides above the floor of the valley, were fortunately unaffected. The growing season was quite temperate until August when a few stretches of warmer days accelerated ripening, resulting in one of the earliest harvests to date.
The wine in its youth is charming: juicy, with soft tannins and hints of spice. The nose is enveloped by ripe black cherries with hints of graphite and baked clay. On the palate the wine is lavish: acidity takes on a background role, while fruit carries the day within a structure of precocious tannin. This vintage of The Mascot is not remembered for density per se, but more for its harmony, proportion, and long, generous finish. — 2 days ago

From the vineyard surrounding the Nickel and Nickel winery in Oakville, this grows on the valley floor just north of the Oakville Crossroad and east of 29. It's a floral cabernet with scents of roses and hints of green. The cherry flavors fill out a fleshy texture, while tart sanguine tannins provide a touch of bitterness to balance the fruit. this needed several years in the cellar to meld.
