I think Joel Gott is a rockstar. I'm not crazy about this, though. I guess he created it with his buddies. I wanted something really cheap for burgers, and this was really cheap. It tastes a bit artificial. Burgers are good, though.

This wine was made 4 years before I was 👶
The cork came out without much of a fight. I immediately smelled berries when I popped it. Encouraging! The color in the glass is a dark/tawny brick. Almost iced tea but red-tinged.
The nose is fruity and floral; equal parts red berries and dusty, dried roses.
The first sip was a smack of cherries and eucalyptus, which in tandem make for an initial shot of cherry cough syrup. Underneath that, I distinctly taste black truffles, wet cigar, stewed tomatoes, and some blood-orange bitterness. It's very enjoyable.
Very low tannins (I was hoping for more, as 1971 was apparently a legendary year in N Italy), and plenty of gleaky acidity.
I really wish @Doug Powers was here.

My man Sydney at Cork & Keg told me to buy this wine, and I do what Sydney says so that he'll order what I ask him to. I've passed by this wine 100 times because I didn't like the label. But, you can't always judge a wine by its label. Look at Bionic Frog.
This is really good! It's a steak wine. Bold, nicely structured, and plenty going on flavor-wise. Big dark fruit, smoke, cedar, focused acidity and firm tannins. It's a winner. And the bottle weighs like 7 pounds.

I've enjoyed this inexpensive Rhone a number of times in the past few years. Looks like it doesn't get many high scores, but I think it finally puts the "tastes great less filling" debate to bed. Strawberries, earth, and rosehip. Finishes a little bitter with ample tannins. Only $14

Wanted something to go with carnitas tonight. Not sure if this will pair well, but it is very tasty. I stole a premature sip while the meat cooks. Lots and lots of berries, tart, blue and red. I smell Syrah. Bright acidity, medium tannins. Terroir, stone. It feels a little Old World.

Powerful nose on this one. I felt like I was getting into a big Paso Robles cab.
This wine is fruity and juicy, with an underlying tobacco leaf bitterness. Very sippable. This would make for a nice wild card at a party. $12.

My self proclaimed wine-ignorant friend (Brandon) gave me this, because I like "fancy wine" and the bottle is fancy. Brandon has the best bourbon collection I've ever seen, but he only buys wine to impress his bourbon hook up. He usually gives the wine to me. Enough about Brandon, this wine is going to be fine with a meaty pasta tonight. It's pretty light bodied, but flavorful. Darker fruit, but not brooding. Just a little meaty, and maybe that's why I have Italian sausage on the brain for dinner. This would be good with pizza or burgers as a Gamay or Malbec alternative.

You are what you drink... Good and clean. This is an inexpensive Tuscan Rosso that is pleasing.
