The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru sports an intense nose of mulberry, dark plum, sous-bois, fern and incense. This is complex and involving, and quite mercurial in the glass. Returning to the wine after 15 minutes, it develops a subtle minty aroma. The palate is velvety-smooth with enormous depth. A little more lush than its peers, it offers extremely pure red cherries, wild strawberry and blood orange toward a dried blood and spicebox-tinged finish that fans out gloriously. Just a wonderful wine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru has a backward bouquet of dark berry fruit, earthy and almost peat-like scents emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, tart red cherries, white pepper and a touch of garrigue toward the long finish. This possesses real density and structure. Great potential. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a tight, quite backward nose that demands more coaxing than Christophe Roumier's Les Amoureuses , but it is easy to fall for the dark brambly fruit mixed with sous-bois and light tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins, zesty and quite citric, offering desiccated orange peel and blood orange flavors. Fresh and sorbet-like on the finish. This Les Amoureuses should age with style. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru is showing a little reduction on the nose; there’s some charry oak here, not quite as clean as its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine balance and finer tannins than Taupenot-Merme's La Riotte. This shows impressive delineation and elegance toward the finish, which is persistent and satisfying. An excellent Morey-Saint-Denis. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. The 2017 Clos de Tart Grand Cru is showing a bit of new oak on the nose, but it is simpatico with the pure red cherries, cranberry and wild strawberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a silver bead of acidity, full of tension and surfeit with energy. There is superb salinity on the finish, which lingers long in the mouth. Sexy and quite sensual, this is a wine that needs time for the terroir to come through. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru has a fresh, tertiary nose with perhaps just a touch of brettanomyces, though it opens nicely with aeration, a pleasant ferrous element coming through. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and fresh, with sappy red berry fruit, fine delineation and a prudent sprinkling of white pepper toward the finish. This is a well-crafted Nuits Saint-Georges with plenty of personality. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of morello cherry, wild strawberry and just a touch of graphite. This is strict and backward, yet very focused, and the oak is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and fresh, displaying fine tannins, superb mineralité and beautifully integrated oak, and delivering good body and persistence on the finish. An excellent Chambolle-Musigny with real pedigree. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru shows the influence of oak on the nose at the moment, slightly occluding the fruit profile and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and well-judged acidity that cuts effortlessly through the new oak. It will need several years to fully absorb the wood, but there is real substance and persistence in situ. Patience. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2022)

The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a primal bouquet of black cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, becoming more confit-like with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and fine depth and poise. Crisp and taut with a pleasant brittle texture toward the finish. It needs time, but it will come good in the end.
