Fattoria Poggio di Sotto

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Delectable Wine
9.6

Luminous red. Delicately smoky and ripe on the nose, with deep raspberry and red cherry aromas complicated by notes of sandalwood, licorice, graphite and sweet pipe tobacco. Full and rich but also very bright, with red and dark berry flavors given life by juicy, harmonious acidity and very nicely framed by supple tannins. Closes long, fresh, and expansive, deeper and less sweet than the estate’s 2018 Rosso di Montalcino also released this year. Utterly delicious and already accessible, this boasts noteworthy elegance and freshness for such a big ripe wine. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

Delectable Wine

Good deep red. Saline aromas and flavors of red cherry, blueberries, herbs, blood orange and sweet spices. Smooth and long on the bright, very sweet finish. Really quite good. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

Castello di Camigliano

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Delectable Wine
9.1

Moderately saturated medium red. Strawberry, honey and flint on the nose and palate. Then fairly steely in the mouth, but boasting nice concentration and an appealing sweetness. Finishes broad and smooth, but I would have liked a little more length for an even higher score. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

Mastrojanni (Poderi Loreto e San Pio)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Delectable Wine
9.0

Vibrant red. Aromas of violet, red cherry and licorice on the nose. Trim and modestly built, but with very good acid-fruit-tannin balance and clean flavors of red cherry and herbs on the medium-long finish. I expect this to improve with a little bottle age. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

Caprili

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Delectable Wine
9.5

Vibrant red. Minerals and violet complement lively red cherry and raspberry aromas on the incisive nose. Then enticingly fresh and well-balanced, with captivating violet inner-mouth perfume to the steely red and black fruit flavors that linger impressively. The delicately peppery finish features polished if youthful tannins and noteworthy purity of fruit. Knockout 2015 Brunello, one of the top half dozen of the year. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

Argiano

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Delectable Wine
9.0

Bright red. Nuanced aromas of red berries, flowers and herbs, plus a hint of iron. Flinty in the mouth too, with a loamy element further complicating red cherry and berry flavors. Closes with nice persistence and repeating floral flavors. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

Fossacolle

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Delectable Wine
9.2

Good full red. Inviting aromas of ripe plum, red cherry nectar, leather and underbrush. Plump but graceful, with flavors of red fruit, leather and potpourri that are supported by polished tannins tapering nicely on the long, saline finish. In keeping with the warm year, this showy wine is round and creamy but slightly less well delineated than some past vintages of Fossacolle. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

Castello Romitorio

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Delectable Wine
9.4

Good full red. Tobacco, mint and earth notes complement red cherry aromas and flavors. Very fresh and precise, with a steely element to its red fruit and herbal flavors that linger nicely on the clean, juicy and floral finish. Blessed with a relatively high but harmonious acid mouthfeel and impeccable balance, this will likely age better than many other 2015 Brunellos. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)
