Mastrojanni's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino presents a complex, dark, and earthy display of ripe black cherries that gives way to dusty, dried florals, spice box, crushed stone and hints of animal musk. On the palate, silky textures and pure Sangiovese fruit collect beneath resonating earth tones, all supported by a web of minerals and tannin. Trim and modestly built, but with very good acid-fruit-tannin balance and clean flavors of red cherry and herbs on the medium-long finish. I expect this to improve with a little bottle age. 2022/2/8-9 with eggs, tomato and ‘nduja, radicchio salad, etc. This was quite young and dense, with dark cherry and blackberry and some powdery tannin, especially on day 1. It balanced out a bit more on day 2, but overall, this is the kind of wine that I think really does benefit with age.
