Roth Estate

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Roth Estate is bright, floral and very easy to like. Crushed flowers, spice, mocha and raspberry are nicely delineated in this delicate, perfumed Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink it over the next decade or so. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)

Hartford Court

Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Chardonnay (Russian River) is a terrific appellation-level wine. Bright and finely cut, the 2019 is so well-balanced. Lemon peel and white flowers grace this enticing Chardonnay from Hartford. Bright acids and floral accents round out the finish nicely. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)

Chalk Hill

Estate Red Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2017 Estate Red is an unusual blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Malbec and 11% Petit Verdot. Racy and opulent to the core, the 2017 packs a serious punch. Jammy red fruit, chocolate, iron, smoke, tobacco and incense add layers of savory, earthy complexity. The 2017 is maybe just a bit rustic, but it has plenty of depth, too. Give it an hour or two in the decanter. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)

Aperture

Soil Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, from vineyards in Alexander County, is bold and savory in the glass. Dark cherry, tobacco, iron, leather and dried herbs give the 2018 plenty of character as well as punch. The tannins are perhaps just a bit rustic. Otherwise, the 2018 is nicely done. Reeve Wines

Rice-Spivak Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2018

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2018 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard is the most overt of the Reeve Pinots I tasted for this report, but it also has plenty of the energy that make these wines so distinctive. Creamy and pliant, the Rice-Spivak is a real joy to taste today. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, chalk, a touch of new oak and white pepper lend striking aromatic brilliance. Of all the Reeve 2018s, the first I would open is the Rice-Spivak. It's a gorgeous wine. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)

Hartford Family Winery

Hartford Court Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Pinot Noir (Russian River) is a terrific appellation-level offering in this range from Hartford Court. Blue/purplish fruit, cinnamon, licorice and spice all grace this expressive, mid-weight Pinot. Enjoy it over the next decade. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)

Chalk Hill

Estate Bottled Chalk Hill Chardonnay 2018

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2018 Chardonnay is loaded with apricot, tangerine peel, pineapple and sweet new oak. The overt, racy style works well here. A hint of reduction on the finish adds a nice counterpoint. Drink this mid-weight, easygoing Chardonnay over the next handful of years. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)

Lancaster Estate

Winemaker's Cuvée Alexander Valley Red Blend 2018

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2018 Winemaker’s Cuvee is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from vineyards in Alexander Valley. Crushed flowers, cedar, mint, tobacco and earthy accents run through a core of raspberry and blood orange fruit. Bright acids and a spine of tannin lend vibrancy as the 2018 opens in the glass. Time brings out the aromatics nicely. Drink this classy, understated red blend over the next decade or so. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)

Hartford Court

Seascape Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2018 Chardonnay Seascape Vineyard is another potent, rich wine from the Sonoma Coast. Bright saline notes play off a core of unctuous, textured fruit. Apricot, pineapple, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper lend brightness to this potent, structured Chardonnay. The Seascape is sourced from a site next to Coastlands. Chalk Hill

Estate Bottled Chalk Hill Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc is gorgeous and distinctive. White flowers, slate, smoke pear, mint and sage all race out of the glass. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2019 is full of flavor. This super-expressive Sauvignon Blanc will drink beautifully for at least the next few years. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2021)
