Trimbach

Cuvée Frédéric Emile Alsace Riesling 2008

The story about this wine for me is about the fragility of life. It was about a year ago that I last drank a bottle - in a little Japanese restaurant called BISSOH, in the heart of Beaune, among riesling and burg lovers, among people whom I regard as my family away from home. We were celebrating the life of a man, who I got to know only a couple months before and admittedly knew little about. But that didn't matter. We all bonded over wine, and he was a man of preposterous passion for it. What really got to me was how quick it all went from drinking the best wines with him to drinking the best wines for him. Hits really close to home.

I've decided upon this wine as my choice to start populating my cellar in Malaysia. Why? For one, it's to remember the life of Tino. Also, riesling's a little hard to come by in Malaysia... so thank God for Trimbach. But perhaps most importantly, it's so bloody delicious!

I love the 08's precision and focus. It smells of flowers, stone fruits, then flowers again, then straight up stone, herbs, almonds. The palate's just liquid rock. And the finish... Breathtaking. Waves of citrusy goodness. However, it needs time. The acid sticks out like a sore thumb at the moment. I reckon with a bit of laying down, it'll integrate right in. What a complete CFE it'll be then 😍
