Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium intensity.
Great nose of blueberries, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, wild flowers, coffee, light earth, light vegetables and pencil lead. Wonderful nose.
Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with blueberries, dried cherries, plums, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, vegetables, earth, spices, black pepper, wet leaves and herbs.
Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.
This is a very enjoyable Carignan from Mendocino County, California. This 43 year old is still drinking nicely. Still very tasty, but doesn't have many years in it.
Great nose, but not fully balanced any longer. Showing great complexity and a nice mouthfeel. Feels like an old Northern Italy red.
Needs an hour to open up properly and show some tannins and complexity. Died after 3 hours of airtime.
I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.
12% alcohol by volume.
89 points.
