Came across this ‘64 Pommard Les Epenots bottled for André Simon in my cellar the other day. It was looking rather forlorn, with a sunken cork, so I decided to open it. I was expecting it to be good, given the quality of the vineyard and vintage, but this delivered far beyond anything I had dared to imagine. One of the best bottles of Burgundy I have had this year. Full of red fruits, with a hint of sous-bois, great acidity, persistence, and balance. Very long. I wonder who made it - the cork is branded with the name of the vineyard but no indication of producer:-&
