California Syrah

Heavily oaked fruit bomb at this stage. Too young, but not sure how this will evolve as the alcohol is quite prominent.

14' Forget about this for the next 4/6 years. -at Portola Valley, CA

Massive fruit and impeccable balance. It shows no hint of its 15.6 ABV. Very “iron fist, velvet glove” in style. Not unlike SQN for obvious reasons. Roasted game meat is there but no old world characteristics. Very modern style and ramped up viscosity done extremely well. Still youthful.

This is an absolutely brute. Too early.

We were asked to find the non Rhône wine in the flight and it was fairly easy. Since the winemaker has been trained at SQN, Andremily is in comparison slightly less bold and with a pleasant cool core. It tastes of Swedish blueberry soup, anise, bacon, and orange peel. Balanced.

Completely different wine on day 2. Unbelievably complex. Everything I want in a Cali Syrah

3 hour decant and BOOM goes the dynamite

Pretty nice. Needed a long decant, but after that it was a nice big Syrah. Berries, chocolate, and smoke. Very dense on the palate.

Way too young. But what a powerhouse!
