Starts out as a Cali cab and moves into a Bordeaux style wine with air. I’d let it go for a while longer as the tannins are still pronounced

Excellent. Not over extracted, overly tannic. Just perfect with short ribs.

Absolutely delicious and super well-balanced. I'm impressed especially considering this is Araujo's third (!) label. I'm not sure they even make the Altagracia II anymore, think just the Altagracia? Can't remember how or where I acquired this but wish I had more!

Plum, black currant, some smoke and leather. 2009 vintage is lovely.

Opens with classic CA fruit but, with an hour or two of air, it starts to lean more Bordeaux-esque. There's a rustic earthiness that echoes Pessac-Leognan on the midpalate, followed by woodsy and herbal flourishes over dusty red fruit in the close. Still plenty of fine grained tannin here, so this should have at least 4-5 good years ahead of it.

This is the real deal. People always ask me what wines I remember the most. This is one of those wines.
