Mid to dark crimson in colour. Muted nose after decanting. After a while, stewed fruits, savoury vegetal notes with a touch of pepper. A sweetish palate - dried plums with some sap. A good wine but I have had better “Premiums “.

Light to mid Ruby in colour. Red and dark fruit florals like Plums also rose petals and sous bois like compost heap. Palate is quite stolid and deep - needs more time to add complexity. A natural acidity still present ( Phillip Jones always bangs on about natural acidity and would never add acid). After an hour or so in the decanter and vigorous swirling you could smell this wine for days. I believe HH’s drinking window of 2016 to 2021 is conservative and should leave my last one for a couple of years to at least 2022.

Wonderful earthy perfume of red fruits, rose petals, mushroom, decayed plant matter, sous bois. Aromas that you go back to time and time again - intoxicating. Medium bodied palate with resolved Tannins, M minus acid and M plus length. Really should not have a Bass Phillip Premium under 10 years of age. 2009 was a good year for BP so Phillip Jones said at the time, but they would have had vintages since which equal or slightly better this. One of Australia’s best Pinot Noirs.

Gorgeous earthy perfume, Forest Floor - could be Burgundian. A Tawny edge to the colour. My 2nd favourite Aussie Pinot after the Bass Phillip Reserve. Savoury cherry nuances on the palate but overall more savoury than fruit driven. Light to medium bodied. Very fine Tannins with natural acid still present. I expected more mid palate fruit for what Phillip Jones described as “one of our best vintages” to that point. They have had better ones since IMO. I would not normally taste a BP Premium under 10 years (this being the first of 4) but having tasted this I wish I had had one say four years ago. In the category of wines I buy every vintage - like the Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay.

Subtle spice , a touch of vanilla, creamy texture with sweet cherry overtones. It's all there but even 6 years hasn't been enough to bring it all out into the open. Give it a couple more and I think it will be something special.
