Secco-Bertani Original Verona Corvina Blend
Verona, Veneto, Italy
Super classic Italian red. This is mostly a blend of three clones of Corvina along with small percentages of Cabernet, Sangiovese and Syrah.
Moderate intensity ruby color. Nose is mostly dried/tart fruit as cranberries and cherry fruit roll up. Palate is delicately tannic and fresh with acid. Very well balanced, while not in way a way a blockbuster. This is the classic 'italian red's of a previous generation which will happily match with nearly any roasted/baked/saucy tomato you want to throw at it as well as creamy risottos and roasted meats. Great all purpose red.

@Ely Cohn pretty much read my mind with his notes. Moderate bricking on edges in glass - check, Dark cherry, raspberry nose, some cocoa and a touch of sous bois on the finish - check. The ultra-soft tannins were noticeable in their faintness. Lovely wine for the price which has aged nicely over seven years; likely near peak. #verona #corvina

I'm not entirely sure how I came about this 2015 Corvina for about $12, but I'm glad I did. A couple days of air and this is humming pretty tunes. You notice a little browning on the edges of ruby brick hues. Notes of cherries and raspberries fall comfortably into plums and chocolate and cocoa and then eventually into minerals and woodsy notes on the tail.
