Bodegas Pazo Das Tapias
Finca os Cobatos Single Vineyard Cepas Viejas Godello
Country: Spain
Region: Monterrei
Appellation: Monterrei
Wine type: White
Varietals: Godello
Vineyard: Single vineyard named Tapias which was planted in the early 1980's. 10 hectares is planted with Godello. Only the oldest vines and the best bunches of grapes hand selected in the vineyard go into the "Cepas Viejas" or Old Vine bottling.
Orientation: High elevation vineyard at around 600 meters.
Soil: Schist with a bit of quartz which reflects the sun light and magnifies the sun's rays resulting in more concentrated fruit.
Viticulture: Low yields - about 52 hL/hA
Vinification: Short cold maceration with skins. Fermentation in 100% stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged on the lees and then cold stabilized and roughly filtered before bottling.
Aging: A bit of aging in tank on the lees.
Production: Low production.
Notes: New release wine! The age of the vineyard has reached a point where it makes sense to select the oldest vines and the best bunches from those vines to make the best wine they can. This is a tremendous example of Godello and a top example from Monterrei at an amazing value.
