Bodegas Sierra Cantabria
Colección Privada Rioja Tempranillo
Made in a small town at foot of Sierra Cantabria in DO. A single variety Tempranillo from 50 year old vines has a deep red color aged for 18 months in French and American oak. Had another bottle in my cellar and decided to have something special. Dark red fruit aromas with licorice and spice notes. On the palate a lots of fruit, cherry and blackberry, subtle spice, round fine tannins well balanced with a long finish ending with some oak notes. Perfect now.

2 people found it helpfulMar 26th, 2017This is some serious juice for $40. Enticing florals of leather, flower petals, grilled meat, cigar box, anise, and vanilla on the nose. The pallet is deep and concentrated, full of defined layers - exhibiting notes of dark cherries, casis, more leather, licorice, and bell pepper. Made from 50 year old vines, and aged 18 months in American and French Oak, produced by Jorge Ordoñez. This was fantastic with grilled lamb, but believe it or not it was amazing with baklava of all things!

Jul 11th, 2017Really nice Tempranillo from a gorgeous winery. The nose is lovely and exotic with plum, violet, red and black licorice, and smoky vanilla jumping from the glass. The palate features sweet red fruits, cinnamon, anise, and more vanilla-laden barrel tones. Oak isn't too prominent but instead is kept in balance (50/50 American and French oak, lending said balance). Tannins are present but not too harsh.. drink now with red meats or lay down for 10-15 years for an ever smoother experience. Great wine.
