This was sweet and pruny and very typically (stereotypically) Californian when first opened. That's the way Calera often is on release but it was kind of a surprise to get the same sensation a good 7 or 8 years after release. As is often the case, it mellows out considerably with time in the decanter - probably took a good hour or so - and then featured far more fruit-like (and less jam-like) blackberry/blueberry flavors within classical parameters of ripeness. It finally also showed off the refined tannins that made this wine so classy on release and always distinguishes the Selleck vineyard for Calera.
