Dry, leathery, velvety. Mellow tannins, good acid, cranberries, but well rounded.

Dec 23rd, 2016Overripe, aggressively sweet and almost candy-like on both nose and palate, tasting like stewed cherries and smelling just as sickly. Thankfully that's cut by some tannic, stemmy notes and some nice potpourri/dried flower. This is still an identifiably Italian wine, albeit flabby and far too sweet for the varietal. I must respectfully disagree with the vintner that this is the purest expression of the grape in question, as he believes Monferrato to produce the most "true" Barberas in the world. This would be great for someone whose palate is more accustomed to California or Spain, or with a spicy, heavy marinara.

Jan 16th, 2016Light in color, high in acidity. Earthy and subtle on the nose, spicy cherry on the palate, with enough tannin to get your attention but not demand it.
