Paired with veal, duck, pâte, and a limited palette of French words. Oh, and frites to clean up the leftover sauce. Bon appétit.

Delicate to be a Rhône but powerful enough to separate itself from others in southern France. Loved this wine

Enjoyed tonight for Valentine's Day. The problem with finding a wine to complement lobster, swordfish, cream spinach, steak and Crème brûlée is that it's just about nearly impossible to do. Well, I saw this 14 CDP on the menu and stopped looking. Compared to the 09, I knew (or at least hoped) that this wine would have been more rounded. My notes of the 09 showed a wine that was robust, 'hot', as the season was definitely more ideal than the 14. But, the good thing was that this wine really opened up with minimal decanting. The wine poured a medium density, nose of black cherry and funk. Entry of this wine is medium+, front revealed dirty black cherry, bramble, mushroom, dirt, a hint of chocolate mint. Rounded edges from start to finish. The wine complemented all food served rather well, and was a nice luscious wine to enjoy even after it was all over. I would definitely say that this is perhaps a more unpredictable vintage (the 14 Clos des Papes was firing on all cylinders when I checked in on it a while back). But overall, this is a vintage to hold 1-2, drink the rest now and enjoy them for what they give you. 92.
