One of the oldest winemaking properties in the Medoc, d'Issan has been turning out wine since the late 1,400s. But never mind that, '96 was a great vintage for the Left Bank, and this bottle seems to validate that fact. The nose is charming, with aromas of black currant, cassis, anise and lavender sachet. Nicely delineated on the palate, it comes across as cool and elegant with firm tannins studded with graphite, minerals, blackberries, dried herbs and that signature Margaux floral note right at the close.
