A great blend of Cab Franc & Merlot, the 2011 Château Joanie Bécot is an inviting example of the kinds of bistro-styled wines being produced in the region of the Côtes de Castillon. A dark, ruby color, the nose is delightfully expressive of ripe currant and stewed cherries. The mouthfeel has softened to an approachable-yet-complex claret that brings the best out of red meats and fine cheeses. For the buck in particular;

Chosen somewhat randomly from my local wine store, this was pleasantly and somewhat surprisingly an actually confounding Bordeaux; medium finish...wet stones, dark fruit, wild herbs, velvety tannins. Drinkable now, and I want to see what it does in a few years. Running with scissors = winning, at least for this bottle of wine...

My wife & I participated in a cork pull at a fundraiser a few evenings back and this Bordeaux blend was one of our selections. As such, I think it’s drinking well within it’s $20-$30 price point. Leather, ripe, dark cherries, plums, spices, and some French oak sweetness. I’d say it had a few more years ahead of it before it’s pinnacle was reached, but I think it’s drinking well now.
