About as good as this wine will be/get at this point being 40 years old. I opened this for a belated 40 year bday dinner for me with the family at home.
The color was a ruby red with garnet edges. The nose was clean, showing tertiary notes of sous bois, dried wild flowers, dried currants and capsicum green notes. Within that there was still that classic Latour nose of perfume and delicate opulence. The palate was sound, albeit it was not lasting more than 20 minutes or so in the glass before you could tell it was starting to fade from exposure to air. The palate reflected the nose with a little less density and intensity. The tannin is fully resolved and the finish was pretty decent with a delicate but very persistent length from the sous bois and savory notes.
Do not decant this if you have one....or probably any 1977 Bordeaux.
