I've always been a fan of Léoville-Barton, and this is another reminder why. Densely perfumed aromas of cassis, blackcurrant, and black cherry intertwine with tobacco, fig, vanilla, espresso, and iron giving fair warning for what's about to happen to your palate. And then it does, in spades.

We tasted blind and this followed the 2011 Brezza Barolo. It just sent us all off track when trying to identify this noble St. Julien. I for one failed and found the nose dominated by sweet spice scented oak. The palate seemed disjointed, lacking concentration, the tannins soft, acidity low... While I'm sure this usually racy, classy claret is far from peak, I can't really asses it based on this tasting. My palate was just assassinated by the Barolo...
